Companies in the industrial sector at the forefront of the virtualization and service-type 'cloud'.

This is particularly the actors in the construction industry and manufacturing, which have a role of leaders. 48% of respondents in this sector implies that the end of 2011 more than half used by these servers will be virtualized. In the financial sector, this percentage is 42%, while in the public sector only 35%.

Currently, one fifth of companies from the industrial sector uses the “cloud”. Respondents assume that this percentage will increase and the end of 2011 has every third company in this sector will use the services of a ‘cloud’.

As for the financial services industry – the results show that, in the opinion of this group of IT companies, are the three main obstacles to the application of the cloud.

These are: time of disaster recovery, security threats and the complexity of processes. At the same time 52% of respondents from this sector is expected to reduce operating costs through the use of technology ‘cloud’ (the figure for the public administration is as high as 57%). Regardless of what the third respondent in this group, managing IT systems, intends to apply a “cloud” in the process of backup and recovery.

Only 40% of surveyed IT workers in the sector of public administration and virtualization technology sees ‘cloud’ as to facilitate the process of backup and disaster recovery system. For comparison – in the financial services industry, this percentage is 49%, while in the industrial sector by 47%.

Other trends arising from the report of the Global Disaster Recovery Acronis Index:

• One third of the financial institution has concerns in their own ability to quickly recover data after system failure

• In the financial sector move backups offsite is not widespread. One quarter of the financial institutions do not transfer your backups to external servers and no offsite disaster recovery strategy. In the case of a catastrophic system failure, these organizations are vulnerable to loss of important data. 44% of surveyed backs up to tape or external disk drives at the end of each working day, and then those copies are stored in a specially designated place.

• The public sector does not trust your IT staff: 24% of public institutions does not believe in relevant knowledge and skills of its technical staff in the event of a catastrophic system failure.

The study Acronis Global Disaster Recovery Index was attended by over 3 000 employees of small and medium IT enterprises from 13 countries, of which have been subjected to detailed analysis of the responses of companies in the industrial sector, financial services and public administration in Germany, France, Japan, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the United States. The survey was conducted by market research center Ponemon Institute in October 2010 on behalf of Acronis.
